World Cup 2026 Tailgating Guide & Family Activities in Arlington, Texas

Two of the most common questions from first-time FIFA World Cup visitors to Arlington are: "Can we tailgate?" and "What do we do with the kids when we're not at a match?" Both deserve full answers, because the pre-match and non-match-day experiences are as much a part of the World Cup trip as the 90 minutes inside AT&T Stadium.

Tailgating at World Cup 2026: What's Allowed and Where

American sports culture has a deep and beloved tailgating tradition, and World Cup attendees — many of whom are accustomed to the pre-match bar culture of European soccer — will find the DFW tailgate experience a uniquely American fusion of both traditions.

Official AT&T Stadium Parking Lot Tailgating: AT&T Stadium's official tailgating policy for World Cup 2026 has been confirmed with some restrictions relative to NFL game-day tailgating. The FIFA World Cup event operations framework limits tailgating to designated zones and restricts personal grills and open-flame cooking in stadium lots. Portable coolers are permitted; full grill setups are not.

For fans who want a genuine Texas tailgate experience, the most practical approach is to pre-game at one of the tailgate-friendly establishments in the Entertainment District rather than attempting a DIY lot setup.

"The FIFA event framework has specific protocols around the stadium perimeter that are more restrictive than typical NFL game days," noted the City of Arlington's official World Cup event planning communications. "We encourage fans to use the Entertainment District hospitality options for their pre-match gathering experience."

Texas Live! Pre-Match Parties: Texas Live! is the de facto tailgate headquarters for World Cup 2026. The 200,000-square-foot entertainment complex — connected to AT&T Stadium by pedestrian bridge — features multiple outdoor viewing areas, full bar service, live music stages, and capacity for thousands of fans. On match days, Texas Live! opens 4 to 5 hours before kickoff with World Cup programming on its outdoor screens.

This is the best tailgate option in Arlington: fully catered, weather-protected (partially covered), within walking distance of the stadium gate, and with a genuine soccer atmosphere built around the specific match being played.

Globe Life Field Parking Area: The Rangers' baseball stadium adjacent to AT&T Stadium does not host World Cup matches, but its parking and plaza areas are expected to be active with fan activation programming during World Cup match days. Check the Rangers' official website for confirmed World Cup programming.

Remote Tailgating: For fans who want the traditional lot-based tailgate experience, the unofficial lots surrounding the Entertainment District (further from the stadium perimeter) operate with more flexibility. Private lots managed by individual owners along AT&T Way, Randol Mill Road, and Division Street historically allow coolers and personal food setups. These lots fill early on match days.

Family Activities: The Non-Match Days

The DFW Metroplex has outstanding family-friendly attractions that complement a World Cup visit for fans traveling with children.

AT&T Stadium Tours (Non-Match Days) AT&T Stadium offers public tours on non-match and non-event days. The Art Tour ($25/person) showcases the stadium's extraordinary contemporary art collection — 46 works by major American and international artists, including a massive bronze sculpture by Takashi Murakami and works by Yoko Ono and Leo Villareal. The regular stadium tour ($25/person) covers the field, press box, locker rooms, and visiting team facilities.

Tours operate at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, and 2:00 PM on available days. Reservations are required and sell out weeks in advance during World Cup season.

Soccer Experience Opportunities for Young Fans The FIFA Fan Festival at Fair Park includes a dedicated soccer skills zone where children can compete in shooting, dribbling, and skills challenges. The activity is free with Fan Festival admission (also free). For competitive youth soccer players, this zone is one of the highlights of the World Cup experience.

The National Soccer Hall of Fame (Frisco) Located approximately 35 miles north of AT&T Stadium in Frisco, Texas, the National Soccer Hall of Fame is housed at Toyota Stadium — the home of FC Dallas. The Hall of Fame's interactive exhibits cover 150 years of American soccer history, including full galleries dedicated to the 1994 World Cup, the USMNT's greatest tournaments, and the NWSL's development.

Admission: $20 adults, $12 children under 12. Open Tuesday through Sunday. The combination of FC Dallas Stadium tour + Hall of Fame visit makes for an excellent full-day excursion for soccer-passionate families.

Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington) Six Flags Over Texas is the original Six Flags park — the first theme park in the Six Flags chain, opened in 1961, located approximately 2 miles from AT&T Stadium. The 212-acre park features over 40 rides including the classic Texas Giant wooden roller coaster and the new family coaster additions from recent seasons.

During World Cup match weeks, Six Flags may offer themed programming related to the tournament. The park is open daily during summer months; tickets purchased in advance online cost significantly less than gate prices.

Perot Museum of Nature and Science (Dallas) Located in downtown Dallas, the Perot Museum is one of the finest natural history and science museums in the American South. The building itself — a dramatic glass cube balanced on a concrete base — is architecturally significant. For families with children ages 6 to 14, the Fossil Hall, Energy Hall, and Innovation Labs are consistently rated among the most engaging exhibits.

Important summer planning note: The Perot Museum is air-conditioned. On the hottest days of the tournament (late June and July regularly reach 100°F+ in DFW), an indoor museum day is a welcome alternative to outdoor activities.

Hurricane Harbor (Arlington) Hurricane Harbor is a Six Flags-operated waterpark approximately 1 mile from AT&T Stadium, open from late May through mid-September. On 105-degree Texas summer days, a waterpark visit is both practical and memorable. The park features wave pools, water slides, lazy rivers, and dedicated children's areas.

Family Logistics: Attending a Match with Children

Taking children to a World Cup match at AT&T Stadium requires additional preparation:

Age considerations: FIFA does not restrict children from attending matches, and children under 2 typically attend free on a parent's lap. Children 2 and older require their own ticket. The AT&T Stadium atmosphere during a sold-out World Cup match is very loud — bring hearing protection for children under 10.

Bag policy: The clear bag policy (see our AT&T Stadium venue guide) applies to all attendees including children. Diaper bags must be clear and meet size requirements.

Hydration: The approach to the stadium on hot days can be physically demanding. Bring sealed water bottles (one per person, up to 500ml), start hydrating 2 to 3 hours before kickoff, and dress children in light, breathable fabric.
